Future Native Interview
July 2006
Interview
Zeitgeist Says Hallo To:
Future Native
Z: Who are you and how would you personally describe your
music?
We are an Australian band called Future Native we are a folk rock
trio with songs described as a blend of emotionally charged and
thought provoking anthems.
Z: When writing, where do you begin?
Sometimes with a melody which leads to a complete arrangement and
other times with a lyrical concept that we then put music to but
always with an emotion
Z: Which groups, artists and/or bands inspire you?
We are into Nickel Creek at the moment and like crowded house ,paul
kelly and john butler in Australia. We have a variety of influences
but love the beatles.
Z: Are you influenced by art and literature at all?
Yes we love good novels, poetry, paintings, sculpture, films or
beauty in any artistic or natural form.
Z: Are there any songs/tracks that you have heard and thought,
I wish I'd written that?
Yes many
Z: Do you push yourself to write, or do you have to wait
until you're inspired?
Have done both but really like life to inspire the subject matter
all though you can put yourself in places or situations that inspire.
Z: What was it that made you go into into making music?
Seeing inxs and hoodoo gurus play in Australia when I was a kid
said PJ but I loved anything rock n roll where as mel was brought
up with Bach and Mozart We are a contrast.
Z: Do you feel the internet is a good way of helping/promoting
your music?
Yes It gets your music to a wider audience with out compromising
your message to do it. We don't need to get permission from anyone
to say what we want thru our music.
Z: Has the computer age, and its use in creating, editing
and manipulating music helped you in any way?
Yes we run our own recording studio that the advance in computer
technology has made possible. We built it out of recycled materials
and I think that is the polarized balance that Future Native is
about. We would like to see technology used for good while people
keep/regain there connection to the earth.
Z: Give me three good reasons why someone should buy your
CDs, barring threats of bodily harm?
I would like to think that the intelligence and sensitivity in
our music ,the variety of topics in our lyrics as well as the depth
of feeling in our life and relationships that inspires our music
is enough to attract interest in our CD "The politics of love".
Alas what is required in this age of over commercialization is more
semi-naked bodies to sell records.
Z: Finally, If you were another person, would YOU be friends
with you?
I think I would be friends with us but maybe that is a question
to ask one of our friends of which fortunately we are blessed to
have many.. thank you.
