Tony Garone – The Epic Of Gilgamesh (Heliopolis)

This is truly remarkable! Tony Garone has been working on his Epic of Gilgamesh project for nearly two years. Gilgamesh is one of the oldest recorded stories in the world, which tells the story of an ancient King of Uruk, Gilgamesh. The epic takes place between the two rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates in what is modern day Iraq and Tony has created a musical interpretation from the original texts.

If you wanted to look for a musical reference point then you could do worse than think of classic Jethro Tull, but it is much, much more than that. Tony has taken a six thousand year old story and brought it wholly to life in unique fashion.

A collaboration of musicians from around the world, most of whom have never met, have used their individual skills to weave a magical web that leaves you gasping for more. Without doubt, this is one of the finest musical projects you will hear this year, or any other. Tony has to be commended for undertaking a truly epic endeavour.
