A snapshot of the UK industrial and alternative underground, featuring Wasp Factory Artists, Family and Friends. Leech Woman, Hydra, Squid, The Chaos Engine, Goteki (formerly Sneaky Bat Machine), Arkam Asylum, Skinflowers and Tarantella Serpentine.
Each band has contributed two tracks.
I'm not one of the people who go along with the whole 'noise is the new punk' theory, but there is an abrasive, angry edge out there in the industrial wastelands, which also seems to be slowly working its way into the publics consciousness and the majors wallets, after all even the NME gave Snake River Conspiracy single of the week!
Wasp Factory is the brainchild of The Chaos Engine, and fittingly enough their mix of hard industrial rock, techno and breakbeat are highlights of this CD with "Complicit" being the stand out track. Of the others I was particularly taken with Arkam Asylum whose psychobilly tinged electric shock treatment has to be heard to be believed. Drum`n`bass, hip hop, OTT seventies rock, absolutely brilliant. And finally, I was rather partial to "Mad Powder Keg" by Skinflowers which seems totally out of place, being a guitar based song with subtle melodies.
