Various Artists - Peoplesound 3Featuring; R.S.L., Headeatail, Embers, Westernised, Jinadu, Jag, Caroldene, Kes, Gravity, Capri, The 57th Dynasty, The Kustom Built, Criptic, Neuroport A curious idea. After all isn't peoplesound supposed to be web based? But here we have a sampler of artists from the web site. R.S.L turn in an excellent bit of trip hop, highly redolent of The Brotherhood, Headetail overcome their crap name with a very commercial, summery laid back dance choon. Embers are a curious combination of britpop and glam backing which is oddly addictive and Westernised go all Belle & Sebastian meet a 70s synth and go clubbing with the ridiculously titled "Mull Historical Society". Jinadu are the natural offspting of Seal, Jag go for that Latino / Fugees mix to nice effect, Caroldene aim for the jugular with a powerful, heartfelt soul based song (remember them), and will probably be huge. Kes name themselves after one of the most over-rated films of all time and then become Blink 182. Gravity are fairly generic indie rock, but go for it with verve, and will finf favour with the My Vitriol crowd. Capri are so mannered, you should hate them. All parping Hammonds, 60s film themes, but then the gruff vovals hit you and boom - you're gone. Loved it. The 57th Dynasty obviously want to be Bone Thugs n Harmony so baad. But they're good at it, so who cares. The Kustom Built have a dreadful name and should change it immediately. Because "Torch Song" (which is nothing of the sort) is moody, mean adn magnificent. Think the Associates meet the Stone Roses and decide to cover "Another One Bites The Dust". Tremendous. Criptic are another spelling mistake, and fall into the Steve Lamaq will play them school of thought. Neuroport end things with an NRG mix of "Strive", which again, makes you think aceeed, deely boppers and people who can't dance thinking they can. Wave your hands in the air, like you just don't care. 14 tracks, probably six worth checking out on the web, a pretty good hit rate. |
