Colorado Colossus

Various - Colorado Colossus (Root of All Evil)

Need metal. Must have metal. A barren metal free year. Not good. Need saved from nu aka keech metal. Backward baseball caps are not good. Fred Durst is a nonce. Praie be then to the Root of All Evil, Earl to his family.

This is a compilation showcasing some of the finest metal bands in Colorado, begat by Jim Renner from Malignari. Taking in all shades of metal from Swedish melodic to doom to thrash to death to that most undervalued genre 80s butt rock, there's some crackers here.

A favourite round Zeitgeist Towers include the mighty spelling mistake Serberus whose "Dark Dream" contains more originality than Cradle of Filth's entire career. Tirade who have come up with a very interesting sound in "Zombie" which puts a new slant on old and hackneyed death and doom motifs. Gotta love Voltaire, as I'm sure the old fraud woul dbe delighted to hear "Cannabis Messiah", an electronic thrash which rawks! Some spankingly good hard core from Last Supper, the nineties, pah! Who needs them. Undecided aren't. Otherwise how would they know that "Black Death (We Are Damned)". No hint of indecision there. Haddy Poppish may have a truly dreadful name, but it's 1979 in their hearts as "Working Class Hero" spanks that plan in true rock and roll fashion.

An excellent compilation from the ever reliable Root Of All Evil.

PAUL CHAIN The Improvisor ''Sign From Space''

Well recommendation number 1 is, under no circumstances try to understand the sleeve notes. It ain't gonna happen!

Paul Chain is apparently, the "Guru of Italian psycho-doom scene". Which means nothing to me, but will doubtless endear him to the thriving Italian psycho-doom scene. No, what you need to know is that these four tracks, "Sign From Space", Parts 1, 2, 3 and, yes, 4, are the great grandchildren of 1971 - 1973 Hawkwind. Oh yes.

Straddling that ever so lovely line between stoner and space rock, this is absolutely fabulous 'look at the size of my bong' listening. If you believe the blurb this was pure improvisation which I assume means they get a better class of class B, no class C drugs in Italy these days.

Combining electronic bling blang, spaced out guitars and just plain mad stuff, this is exceptionally good, and comes highly recommended for your next magic mushroom fondue.

Available on CD and limited edition vinyl format haused in g/f sleeve.
